Some of the articles are unsubstantiated opinion but I suspect there are some genuine comparisons with tests out there. Thanks!įirstly, there are a number of comparisons on the Internet - Google for 'Minolta 5400 vs Nikon'. But if something really excellent is around $1,000, I'd be willing to put my A50 1.2 on ebay to fund it. 700 is approaching my limit for how much I'd spend on a scanner. I was wondering if anyone has recommendations with regards to these scanners? I'm also very open to other recommendations around this price point. The 5400 fares even worse according to reviewers on amazon. On amazon, there are 34 people who ranked the Dimage IV 5 stars and 24 people who ranked it 1star. However, for the Minoltas, people either say its a great scanner or that it is a useless large paperweight. It seems like the Nikon is the most widely well regarded. Trying to find reviews online has had mixed results. However, I know scanners can be really finicky. Each of them have more than sufficient stated resolution for my purposes. On ebay, the 5400 goes for $400, the Dimage IV for 220, and the Coolscan V for 700. I've narrowed it down to either the Minolta 5400, the Minolta Dimage IV or the Coolscan V. I've decided to shoot primarily film, so I'm selling off a couple of my digital items to fund a purchase of a dedicated 35mm scanner.
